Rabindranath Tagore was born in Calcutta on 6 May 1861. After his marriage in 1883, Tagore managed the family estates at Shileida, where he wrote many of his works. In 1901 he founded a school at Santiniketan, Bopur, Bengal, which later became the international institution, Visva-Bharati. In 1912 he visited England and translated some of his works into English.
